Hit by oil tanker, teacher dies

A 44-year-old schoolteacher was killed after an oil tanker crushed her Activa scooter near the Lord Parshuram light point this afternoon. The victim, Babita Kapoor, was going towards her residence in Sector 19 from Haryana Model School in Sector 10 around 4 pm when a speeding Indian Oil Company tanker hit her scooter from the rear side. Babita was crushed under the front wheels of the tanker. The tanker driver, Sanjay Kumar, who hails from Himachal Pradesh, fled from the spot.

Babita was taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 where she was declared brought dead. She is survived by her husband, Sanjeev Kapoor, who reached the hospital, and a 20-year-old son, who is a law student in Dehradun. The tanker bore an Ambala registration number.
