IAF rescues 220 people from snow-hit Kishtwar
Jammu, March 5
Amidst inclement weather across the state, the Indian Air Force (IAF) rescued 220 people who were left stranded in snow-bound areas of Kishtwar district.
“The IAF airlifted 220 people trapped in snow-hit Kishtwar district yesterday,” a defence spokesperson said.
The IAF’s 130 Helicopter Unit- “The Condors”, stationed at Jammu, undertook an operation of rescuing stranded people from the inaccessible villages of Kishtwar, Navapachi and Sondar in the district, he said.
“Braving piercing snow waves and extreme cold, MI-17 chopper, in assistance with the local administration, airlifted 220 people from remote areas of Kishtwar and moved them to safety,” he said.
The MI-17 took off at 8 AM and continued with the operations in sub-zero temperatures. The operation was carried out by Squadron Leader Shailesh Singh, co-pilot Squadron Leader Nirmal and Flight Lieutenant Vikas. — TNS
