Chandigarh, July 3
A retired IAS officer of the Haryana cadre has been overstaying in government accommodation allotted to him in Chandigarh during his service even after three years of retirement.
Information gathered by Shekhar Rana, a city resident, has revealed that Surjit Singh, a retired IAS officer, has been staying in House No 8/3359, Sector 23-D, Chandigarh, for three years after his retirement in 2013, though rules, the information said, allowed an officer to stay for a maximum of four months on the payment of normal licence fees.
The information gathered under the RTI also revealed that the officer has been facing proceedings under the Public Premises Act.
Information supplied by Superintendent-cum-CPIO, House Allotment Committee, Chandigarh, said no IAS officer had been allowed by the Chandigarh administration to retain house beyond the permissible limit of four months.
The UT administration, it is alleged, is playing soft on the officer due to his influence.
Rana alleged eviction orders were passed against the officer and his appeal against the orders was dismissed, but he failed to vacate the government accommodation even after that.
The IAS officer admitted he had overstayed in the accommodation, but said he would soon vacate the house once his son, a government officer, gets one. He denied having used any influence to keep the accommodation.
