ITF Juniors: Top seeds Alex, Shaik move to main round

Top seed Alex Solanki defeated Sagar Bains in straight sets in their boys’ final qualifying round match of the CLTA ITF Juniors Circuit Tennis Tournament at Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association complex, Sector 10, here today.

Solanki faced some resistance from Bains in the opening set but he used his experience to close it 6-4 in his favour. In the second set, Solanki conceded only one game and took the match 6-1. In other matches, sixth seed Atharva Sharma upset fourth seed Drona Walia 6-0 6-3, while third seed Sumit Pal Singh defeated Krishan Hooda 6-3 4-6 6-4. Second seed R Bollipalli defeated Ashutosh Tiwari 4-6 7-5 6-3.

In the girls’ singles final qualifying round, top seed Shaik Humera defeated local contender Harleen Kaur in a three setter. Humera lost the first set 5-7, while in the second she bounced back strongly (6-3) to level the match. In the final set, both played high quality tennis but Humera had the last laugh, winning the game 7-5.  In other matches, second seed Shivani Manjanna defeated Misha Sood 6-3 6-1, third seed Yuvrani Benerjee outplayed Dadasaheb Chougle 7-6(7) 6-1.
