With 13 nominations, Drake set a new record for the most American Music Awards nominations beating Michael Jackson’s 11 nods in 1984. The nominations for the 29-year-old rapper include, Artist of the Year, Favourite Male Artist and Favourite Album in two categories (pop/rock and rap/hip-hop) for his 2016 album, Views.
Drake’s hitmaker Hotline Bling is nominated for ‘Favourite Song’ in the rap/hip-hop category, that also has Panda by Desiigner and 679 by Fetty Wap nominated for the title.
In the ‘Favourite Song’ for soul/RnB category, Drake’s One Dance (featuring Wizkid & Kyla) is nominated along with his ex-flame, Rihanna’s Work (featuring Drake).
Other nominations include Best Hip-Hop Video, Collaboration Of The Year for One Dance (featuring Wizkid & Kyla), Favourite Artist in the rap/hip-hop category.
The Controlla singer broke a 32-year long record set by MJ back in 1984 AMA nominations.
Rihanna was just behind Drake with seven nominations for the 2016 AMAs, while Adele and Justin Bieber picked up five nominations each, followed by four nods each for Beyonce and The Chainsmokers and three for Bryson Tiller, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood, Fetty Wap and The Weeknd.
The show will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 20 on ABC. —ANI
