Jammu, June 1
The White Knight Corps, also called the 16 Corps, celebrated its 47th Raising Day at its headquarters in Nagrota on Friday. A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was conducted with full military honours on the occasion.
General Officer Commanding (GOC), 16 Corps, Lt Gen Saranjeet Singh paid floral tributes to the martyrs at ‘Ashwamedh Shaurya Sthal’ in the early hours of the day.
The GOC also complimented all ranks for their outstanding contribution to maintaining vigil on the Line of Control and ensuring peace and tranquillity in the region.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the 16 Corps said the Corps was raised on June 1, 1972, on the banks of the Tawi at Nagrota. “In the last four decades, the Corps has grown from strength to strength to become operationally most vibrant force in the Army. The Corps is committed to pursuit of guarding and maintaining the sanctity of the Line of Control and combating militancy. It is also actively involved in various developmental programmes for the ‘awaam’ in the region,” the PRO said. — TNS
