67 km of Katra-Banihal railway line completed

Of the total 272-km rail line between Udhampur and Baramulla, the 111-km stretch between Katra and Banihal remains to be connected. The stretch has tunnels on 97 km and surface rail line on 14 km, while 67-km-long escape tunnels are also being provided alongside the main tunnels.

This information was given by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project at a meeting of the apex committee on Friday to review the progress of work. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam here.

On the progress on the 111-km Katra-Banihal stretch, the CAO said the work on 67 km of the main tunnels had been completed along with 30-km escape tunnels. He said workwas going on smoothly.

The meeting was told that some issues requiring the intervention of the state government were projected for early resolution. —TNS
