Jammu, June 29

A police officer was killed in a road accident in Doda district on Saturday after his car skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge.

The incident happened at Galgandhar on the Pul Doda-Bhaderwah national highway this morning.

The deceased was identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI)Vikram Singh (45) of Gawadi, Bhaderwah.

Station House Officer, Doda, Mohammed Rouf said: “He was posted at the Kuleed police post in Kishtwar and was heading to Kishtwar from Bhaderwah. The mishap happened likely due to overspeeding.”

Police teams from Pul Doda rushed to the accident spot and shifted the officer to District Hospital, Doda, where doctors declared him brought dead.

His body was handed over to his family for last rites after legal formalities.

The officer joined the police force in 1997 as a constable and got out-of-turn promotion within a year for being instrumental in anti-insurgency operations in Doda and Kishtwar.
