Bari Brahmana residents block NH over erratic power supply
Samba, June 5
Residents of the Teli Basti locality in Bari Brahmana today blocked the Jammu-Pathankot highway in protest against erratic power supply to the area. The vehicular movement was disrupted, leading to traffic jams.
Protesters gathered near the SIDCO Chowk on the highway in Bari Brahmana this morning and raised slogans against the administration and the Power Development Department (PDD) for not providing regular electricity supply in the town.
“The PDD is testing our patience as we have been facing hardships due to a power crisis for the last 15 days. The children, old and infirm are the worst sufferers. We cannot live without power in this sweltering weather,” said Rashida, a local resident.
“Despite our repeated pleas, the PDD has failed to resolve the problem. We will be forced to launch a massive agitation against the authorities and the coalition government in case the power supply is not restored at the earliest to our area,” she said.
However, the road blockade was later lifted with the intervention of senior police and PDD officials who assured the residents that their problem would be resolved. — OC
