Cop shoots himself in Budgam

A policeman from Anantnag district allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at his place of posting in Budgam district, officials said.

Head Constable Mohammad Shafi Mir from Sadoora, Anantnag, committed suicide by shooting himself at the Budgam Police Lines on Monday.

“He died on the spot,” a police officer said, adding, “The reasons for his suicide are being ascertained.”

Medico-legal formalities were conducted before sending the body to his native area for the last rites.

Since the militancy erupted, dozens of security men have committed suicide or have been killed by their colleagues. Most of the times, reason for such incidents are believed to be “high level of work stress.” — TNS
