Kathua, September 13
Kathua will soon get Dr KK Birla Public Park, the first-of-its-kind here. Spread over 19 kanals with various recreational activities, the park is being developed by Chenab Textile Mills, a unit of Sutlej Textiles and Industries Limited, under its corporate social responsibility at an estimated cost of Rs 150 lakh in memory of Dr KK Birla, noted industrialist.
The ‘bhoomi pujan’ ceremony was performed by Dr Jitendra Singh, MoS in PMO, in presence of Rajiv Jasrotia, MLA; Sanjeev Verma, Divisional Commissioner; and Rohit Khajuria, Deputy Commissioner.
The park is being developed near Kalibari over land provided by the district administration. The park will have numerous facilities such as a special children’s area, an open air theatre and yoga and meditation lawn.
A pond and reflexology park, floating deck and a flowering tree trail will also be developed as per the layout plan. For the morning walkers, a jogging track will be laid out.
“The park is being constructed in memory of Dr Birla on his 100th birth anniversary over 19 kanals provided by the state. The park will be dedicated to Kathua residents. It will provide intrinsic environment, aesthetic and recreation benefits to people,” said KC Sharma, executive president of Chenab Textile Mills.
