Srinagar, October 28
A day after the Civil Secretariat and other Durbar offices closed in the summer capital, office records were packed and loaded in trucks for transportation to Jammu, the winter capital of the state for the next six months today.
The offices — Civil Secretariat, Raj Bhawan, office of the Chief Justice, J&K, and Police Headquarters —closed here yesterday, while some other offices that observe six-day week closed today as part of the bi-annual move between the summer and winter capitals. These offices will re-open in Jammu on November 6 for the next six months of winter.
The movement of these trucks and other official vehicles outside the Civil Secretariat, Police Headquarters and other offices led to traffic congestions.
The city witnessed heavy traffic this week as the preparations for the Durbar move had already started.
This is for the second time that the PDP-BJP coalition government headed by CM Mehbooba Mufti winded up its summer Durbar in Srinagar since she took over in April 2016. As compared to the last year’s unrest in Kashmir, this summer session of the government was relatively peaceful.
To ensure smooth movement of vehicles, only one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu is allowed today and tomorrow. One-way traffic to Jammu will also be plied for two days on November 4 and 5, when the Kashmir-based employees move to the winter capital.
