On the 12th day of 'RangTrang-Display Your Talent-2019', an elocution competition was conducted at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu (JU), on Thursday. Topics like education, social media, changing values, drug abuse, terrorism and peace were given to participants. Seerat Baji stood first, while Mehul Rajput and Srishti Koul bagged the second and third positions, respectively. The certificate of merit was awarded to Roopam Vir Singh.

Fish market survey

Students of the Department of Industrial Fish and Fisheries of Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, along with the faculty conducted a fish market survey of Kathua town on Thursday. They visited different fish shops, including edible as well as ornamental fish shops of the town at Govindsar and Pathania markets. Students inquired about the types of species of fishes present at the market, their demand and price and the potential of fish selling business.

College holds cleanliness drive 

The NSS unit of GDC, Jindrah, on Thursday organised the second phase of the "Swachhata Hi Sewa" campaign in the college. The proceeding of the programme were initiated by Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma, programme officer, by making two teams of 100 volunteers who participated in the cleanliness drive. The volunteers collected solid waste and plastic bottles during the drive. The principal of the college appreciated the efforts of the NSS volunteers

Students’ delegation meets Azad

A delegation students from the University of Jammu (JU) and other academic fields on Thursday met  Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. The delegation apprised him of issues related to jobs and higher education. A memorandum highlighting demands was also submitted by the delegation. It demanded that certain provisions like UPSC age relaxation to the domicile of J&K in Central and UPSC examination, reservation in state government jobs for the youth of J&K, SRO 43- providing compassionate appointment, continuation of state civil services examination (KAS), reservation for the youth of J&K in admission to various accredited institution/universities must be retained in their original form. 

Double delight for MAM college

Government MAM College beat Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, in the final to clinch inter-collegiate badminton tournament in the women section on Thursday. The tournament was organised by the Department of Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ). Dr Twinkle Suri, Dean, Students Welfare, CLUJ, was the chief guest. In men section too, Government MAM College emerged victorious by defeating Government SPMR College of Commerce. The match was officiated by Rahul and Balbir under the supervision of Vikram Singh, physical director.

Green champions felicitated 

Buds Playway and Primary School, Channi Himmat, on Thursday felicitated "green champions" and distributed certificates for their initiative and contribution to collect recycle waste by participating in the campaign launched by school since the last few weeks. The campaign launched by the school was titled "Jammu against plastic pollution". A cleanliness drive was also launched around the school campus to celebrate 150 years of Gandhi Jayanti. Principal of the school Mridula Mangotra along with other dignitaries was also present.

NSS Day celebrated 

Shri Ranbir Government Higher Secondary School on Thursday celebrated NSS Day on its premises. Posters on the theme of role of youth in national integration and social harmony were also prepared. Principal of the school Swarn Singh appreciated the efforts of the NSS team.
