Former MLC Vikramaditya Singh, who is the scion of royal Dogra rulers of the state, on Wednesday hailed the “proactive efforts” of the J&K High Court Bar Association in raising and voicing important socio-political issues related to the Jammu region.

In a statement issued here, Vikramaditya extended his support to the Bar Association and said there was strong resentment among the people of the Jammu region regarding the mishandling of sensitive issues by the ruling coalition government.

Vikramaditya also praised the efforts of the members of the Bar Association, who are mobilising civil society and taking up the fight and cause for the people of Jammu. He said the entire Jammu region must unite in one voice to make their protest and resentment heard to the ruling parties that continue to ignore them and divide the region.

He said his resignation from the ruling party and from the state Legislative Council in October last year was in protest against the discrimination meted out to the Jammu region by the coalition government regarding several important and sensitive issues concerning the Jammu region.

Meanwhile, the General House of the J&K High Court Bar Association, led by president and senior advocate BS Slathia, discussed and deliberated upon the issues concerning the Jammu region, including deportation of illegally settled immigrants in and around Jammu, alleged illegal directions issued in the meeting of the Tribal Affairs Department held on February 14 and the agitation by people of Nowshera, Sunderbani and Kalakote.
