The Kathua police on Monday registered an FIR against the younger brother of former minister and BJP legislator Choudhary Lal Singh for using derogatory and abusive language against Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

A case under Sections 509, 66 and 67 of the IT Act was registered at the Hiranagar police station after a 26-second video of Rajinder Singh, alias Bubby, went viral on social media, where he was heard hurling abuses at the Chief Minister.

The video clip purportedly shot during the Dogra Swabhiman rally showed Bubby sitting atop a vehicle and using abusive language against the Chief Minister.

Condemning the incident, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: “This is absolutely unacceptable language used against @MehboobaMufti and is unequivocally condemned with request that @JmuKMrPolice file an FIR against this abusive individual (sic).”

Meanwhile, Rajinder Singh refuted the allegations and said the alleged video was doctored and circulated by his political rivals to defame him.
