Panels set up to upgrade parks in Jammu, Srinagar

The ruling PDP-BJP government today constituted state and divisional level steering committees for improvement and upgradation of parks and gardens in the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar.

According to a government order issued here, the five-member state-level committee will be headed by Chief Secretary while administrative secretaries of finance, planning, development and monitoring and housing and urban development departments would be members. The administrative secretary of floriculture, parks and gardens department will be member secretary.

The state-level steering committee will monitor the progress for the development or upgradation of parks and gardens in Jammu and Srinagar cities and suggest a mechanism for adequate funds and infrastructure for them.

The committee will also devise a strategy for ensuring green spaces in both cities under the provisions of the smart city mission.

Similarly, the two divisional-level committees, one each for Kashmir and Jammu divisions, will prepare standard operating procedures for mapping parks and gardens in Jammu and Srinagar.

At the divisional level, the director of floriculture will be the chairman of the eight-member committee.

The mandate of the divisional-level committees is to work out modalities for the maintenance of gardens and parks and identify gaps, if any, in providing infrastructure for them. These committees will submit its progress report quarterly to the state-level steering committee.
