Rajputana Rifles pays homage to soldiers

SRINAGAR: The Rajputana Rifles observed “Remembrance Day” on Monday to pay homage to the gallant soldiers and martyrs of the regiment.

The Rajputana Rifles observed “Remembrance Day” on Monday to pay homage to the gallant soldiers and martyrs of the regiment.

Lt-Gen KJS Dhillon, Chinar Corps Commander and Colonel of the Regiment, The Rajputana Rifles, along with many serving officers, junior commissioned officers, other ranks and veterans of the regiment laid wreath at War Memorial in Delhi Cantonment to pay homage to all the gallant soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation, an Army statement said.

“On the solemn occasion, three Veer Naris were also honoured and felicitated in the presence of hundreds of serving officers, JCOs, OR and veterans. The regiment also honoured and felicitated two of its gallantry award winners,” it added.

First Battalion was raised as far back in January 1775. The regiment, as it stands today, was formed in 1921-22 during the general reorganisation of the Indian Army.

Thousands of soldiers of The Rajputana Rifles laid down their lives in the First and Second World Wars.

The Rajputana Rifles, following the fine tradition of soldiering, has won hundreds of gallantry awards. The regiment has 68 battle honours to its credit and the most famous of these are Meeanee, Kirkee, Aliwal, Poonch, Mynamati, Charwa, Asal Uttar and Basantar.
