Students booked for disrespect to national anthem

RAJOURI: The Rajouri Police have lodged an FIR against unidentified students for allegedly showing disrespect to the national anthem on the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) campus yesterday.

The Rajouri Police have lodged an FIR against unidentified students for allegedly showing disrespect to the national anthem on the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) campus yesterday.

Students, including a few girls, who didn’t stand up when the national anthem was being sung reportedly belonged to the Kashmir valley. They have been booked under Section 3 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, on a complaint.

“A case has been registered at Rajouri police station against those who have shown disrespect to the national anthem,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Yousuf.

“Taking suo motu notice of the incident, the police on the complaint of the in charge, police post, BGSBU, have registered a case,” Station House Officer, Rajouri, AS Chib said, adding that the police would soon write to the BGSBU authorities to identify the students involved in the incident.

The act of the students was recorded on camera. The recording shows two students sitting and clicking ‘selfies’ when the national anthem was being sung during the 3rd Inter-State (North Zone) Declamation Contest at the BGSBU, a source said. The matter came to light during the valedictory function for Silver Rolling Trophy when a video of the incident went viral on the social media.
