Srinagar, November 21
A suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered by security forces on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Kulgam district on Thursday.
An object was found by road opening party (ROP) of the Indian Army’s 16 Guards at Ganjipora Alstop axis after which the area was cordoned off.
Immediately, a bomb disposal squad was called on the spot and traffic on the highway was diverted. “Bomb disposal squads of the Indian Army and police recovered two tin boxes with hanging wires. The device was defused on the spot,” an official said.
Kulgam Senior Superintendent of Police Gurinderpal Singh said they were confirming whether it was an IED or not. “..When bomb disposal squads detonated the object, it did not explode much. After getting a report from forensic science laboratory we will get to know if it was an IED,” the SSP said. — TNS
