Women have borne brunt of turmoil: Omar

The women of the state have borne the brunt of the turmoil, uncertainty, instability and strived against all odds to be an integral part of the state’s movement towards prosperity and peace. This was stated by National Conference working president Omar Abdullah while addressing the party’s Women Convention at its head office ‘Nawa-e-Subha’ here today.

Omar said the women activists had always played a pivotal role in strengthening the party at the grass-roots level.

“Our mothers, sisters and daughters have shown exemplary fortitude and resilience in striving for the rights of our state and its people. They have borne the brunt of the turmoil in the state and despite unimaginable circumstances, they have never hesitated to stand up and be counted,” said. He added: “In empowering our women and ensuring they are heard, respected and given due representation, we will be shaping a bright future for our state.”

The former J&K Chief Minister, while commending the party’s women’s wing provincial president Shamima Firdous (MLA) and other office-bearers, lauded the contribution of the women wing in ensuring the success of various party programmes and outreach initiatives that were underway. He assured the NC women wing workers of his support to their efforts for the party and the state.
