159 dengue cases reported in Phagwara this year

As many as 3,942 dengue cases were reported in the state from January 1 to October 10 this year. Of this around 159 dengue cases were reported in Phagwara.

This was confirmed by Special Secretary, Health, Punjab, Puneet Goyal, and Sumit Sharma, an epidemiologist, after a meeting with Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bakhtawar Singh and the Civil Surgeon Kapurthala on Thursday.

Puneet, who visited the town to assess the situation after dengue cases reported in Phagwara, said: “All preventive measures have been taken by the Health Department to check dengue, but awareness to control dengue is the need of the hour.”

He said the spread of dengue needed to be checked by the departments concerned, including Health and Local Bodies Department. He, along with other senior officials, monitored the drill for preventive measures to control the dengue.

Joint Commissioner Jyoti Bala, Assistant Commissioner Surjit Singh, Water Supply and SDO Pardeep Chattani also attended the meeting.
