The district administration declared 11 more villages of Dasuya and Hoshiarpur subdivision drug-free today. Of them, six villages fall in Dasuya subdivision. An anti-drug campaign is also going on in the district.
Recently, nine villages were declared drug-free in Garhshankar and Mukerian subdivision. Following all guidelines on the issue, the administration has identified these villages. Strict parameters have been laid for the purpose by the government, which include reporting and recommendations of Nasha Rolu Nigraan Committee, DAPOs, master trainers, Guardians of Governance, police, Health Department and antinarcotics wing.
Addressing a gathering at the DAC here, DC Isha Kalia threw light on details while announcing the second list of drug-free villages of the district. She said the list of the villages, which have potential to be declared as drug-free, was received from the STF. The administration has acted upon it and taken steps to ensure that the needful is done. It was a continuous process in which efforts were on to make the district drug-free.
Sub-Divisional Mission teams headed by the SDMs concerned work on the villages and when a team finds that the villages are fit for declaring as drug-free, it recommends them to the district mission team headed by the DC. On being satisfied, the district mission team declares the villages drug-free.
The villages that have attained the drug-free status in the second round are Uddra, Makkowal Chadhdi Patti, Chandidas, Chak Noor Ali, Khangwari and Bhanbhowaal of Dasuya subdivision. Nara, Tharoli, Sajjan, Akhlaspur and Brahmjeet are villages that fall in Hoshiarpur subdivision.
