21 service delivery centres for city

The Municipal Corporation will hold a House meeting on May 8 to discuss setting up of 21 Unified Citizen Service Delivery Centres (UCSDCs) in the city by the year end. Also, it would decide places to set up six community healthcare centres (CHCs) in the city.

While 21 UCSDCs have been proposed to set up majorly in Maqsudan, Industrial area in Saipur Road, Under Domoria flyover, new focal point, Transport Nagar, Burlton Park, Lamba Pind, Chaugitti main road, Basti areas, Kurla Kingra, PIMS and Bhargo camp area, the CHCs have been proposed at Basti Guzan, Dada Colony, Khurla Kingra and Garha, Ladhewaali and Baring villages.

Also, taking a cue from the Bathinda MC, the corporation has for the first time proposed to levy devolution taxes to construct and maintain a cattle pond in the city. While it has proposed to charge Rs 100 for the entry of each oil tanker in the city, it has proposed to levy Rs 2 per bottle of branded liquor. Also, it has proposed to charge 2 paisa per unit of electricity consumed in its municipal limit and Rs 1,000 for sale of every four-wheeler in its area.

Also, it has been proposed to buy 2.25 acres near the Wariana dump for Rs 216 lakh for the extension of the dump area.

The corporation has also proposed to commercialise 110 acres in front of the Prithvi’s Planet on the 60-ft road and the old GT road adjoining the Atma Niwas.

Also, a proposal to hire JCB machines at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh to lift garbage dumps in the city will be tabled before the house. An additional JCB and a tipper to lift garbage by the Health Department at a hiring cost of Rs 4.51 lakh will also be proposed in the meeting.

The MC has also proposed to pay the salaries of around Rs 1.80 lakh to the three contractual workers engaged to implement the solid waste management project at the cluster level. The MC has proposed to initially bear the salaries only to be recovered later from another ULB in the cluster in proportion to the waste generated at the end of the year.

It has also been proposed to buy uniforms worth Rs 4.85 lakh for fire safety personnel.

For the benefit of sanitation workers, the MC has decided to provide a personal accident insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh to all sanitation workers and the premium cost will be borne by the MC only. Also, 29 promotions have been proposed for senior sanitation workers as sanitary supervisors.

The MC has also proposed to claim a grant of Rs 60.96 lakh from HUDCO under the corporate social responsibility scheme to upgrade and construct night shelters in the city. While Rs 42.36 lakh have been allocated for the upgrade of the existing ones, Rs 18.60 lakh have been allocated for the construction of a new night shelter at Basti Sheikh.

F&CC Meeting on May 9

A meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) has been called on May 9. Various proposals, including the maintenance of Company Bagh, construction of road and drains in balance streets of slum areas in Ward No 46 will be discussed.

Also, along with tree plantation at company Bagh, the House will also propose to plant palm trees from PAP Chowk to Khalsa College.

A proposal will also be placed before the house to reduce BSF Chowk and widening of the road from BSF Chowk to country INN Hotel.

A proposal to construct Unified Citizen Service centre (UCSDC) at Cantt Constituency and Central constituency with an estimated cost of Rs 56.40 lakh and Rs 112.80 lakh, respectively, will also be tabled before the House. UCSDCs in the West and North constituency has both been proposed to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 112.80 lakh each.
