The ninth edition of Dalhousie film meet will be organised from October 11 to 13 by People’s Voice, an organisation dedicated to spreading thought-provoking cinema among people.
The three-day meet, where directors and youngsters from colleges are invited to make students aware of art cinema, was started nine years ago.
The organisation, formed in 2001, has been silently working for many years, showing real cinema without even charging a single penny. The members said they found that people here were devoid of good and thought-provoking cinema. Kulwinder Kumar, convener of the organisation, said: “We started because nobody was able to see meaningful cinema, same kinds of films were being produced and art movies and parallel cinema was dying under the garb of entertainment.”
Dr Sailesh, who is associated with People’s Voice, said: “We wanted everyone to believe that it is an art to see good films and how these films impact the thought process,” he said. Talking about the journey, the members said they used to borrow projectors on rent when they started the initiative and would take those projectors to schools so that the students could learn from the films.
On last Sunday of every month, films are shown at Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall at 5 pm, where along with Indian movies, international films are also showcased. After the show, the members also discuss interesting facts about the film with the viewers.
The organisation has members among whom are doctors, servicemen and businessmen. The members said they often visited schools and colleges to show students meaningful movies.
