As many as 385 men recruits from across the state were inducted as constables in the Punjab Police during a passing-out parade of 170th batch, held at the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) ground on Friday.

Manit Beniwal (22), who was selected as the leading parade commander to command all recruits said he was aiming to be a part of the police force from quite a long time. Hailing from a family of farmers in Rajasthan, he said only his hard work and dedication helped him get into the Punjab Police. He also gave credit to the 11-month rigorous training.

Other award winners were Malkeet Singh and Charanjit Singh, who won trophies for the best indoor sports player and best shooter, respectively. Malkeet, whose father is a sweets maker said his father was very proud of him for getting a reputed job. He added that he was the first person in his family who has ever acquired a job. In-addition, Charanjit Singh, a resident of Muktsar Sahib said the training had taught all the recruits to serve the society selflessly. Moreover, with more educated people joining the Punjab Police, it could be hoped that that the department would witness a sea-change in the coming years and the new recruits would be capable enough to transform the negative image of Punjab Police into positive image.

Chief guest on the occasion DGP Intelligence Dinkar Gupta motivated the fresh batch of constables to work with sincerity in the department and always work for the public. Also, the Punjab Police Department has adopted various new techniques and technologies, which could be availed by the new recruits for better public dealing.

Apart from 299 constables with 10+2 education, the remaining inducted constables hold professional degrees like BTech, MTech, BA, BEd, BSc (IT) and MBA.
