Jalandhar, September 5
On Teacher’s Day, six teachers of the district have been awarded the state award.
Raj Kumar Sharma (56), principal, Devi Sahai SD Senior Secondary School, Basti Nau, changed the school’s fate completely when he joined it as its head in December 2001 and turned it around completely. When he joined the school, it had a strength of around 1,000 students. There was only the arts stream and it was not a co-ed school.
Sharma, with his efforts, made it possible to start the commerce and science streams here. He made the school co-educational which was earlier only for boys and now the strength of the school is more than 1,900.
Ashok Kumar, 37, Government Primary School, Chachrari
Kumar joined the service in 2006 at Government Primary School, Chachrari. The school was the first in the district to start smart classes and it had also started English medium in the primary school. He said it was a proud moment that he had won the award. It had given him more encouragement to pursue his duties with more dedication.
Joginder Kaur, 58, Government Senior Secondary School, Nehru Garden
Kaur said she had come into this profession 1992, and since then she has been enjoying it thoroughly. Kaur is a maths lecturer and said that since she had joined the school in 2007, the strength had increased remarkably. She also said that her result had always remained 100 per cent.
