Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Public Works Department (PWD) to conduct a survey for constructing a four-lane road to provide easy and accessible approach to commuters up to the Adampur airport.
Chairing a meeting at his office here with officials, the Deputy Commissioner said there was a need to provide easy access to people moving towards the airport.
The Deputy Commissioner said currently from Adampur people have to travel around 8 km to reach the airport. However, this could be further reduced to facilitate passengers.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the officers to explore the feasibility of the four-laning of the 1.5-km stretch from Adampur towards Mehtiana along the canal and construction of a 2-km new four-lane road before the railway crossing on the Adampur-Hoshiarpur road.
Sharma said already a bricked road was existing on the proposed stretch.
The DC asked them to complete the work at the earliest to facilitate residents. This project would act as a catalyst to ensure better air connectivity to people, thereby saving their time, money and energy.
He also them to submit the report regarding the survey at the earliest.
Chief Executive Officer of Smart City Jitendra Jorwal, Manager of Adampur airport Kewal Krishan, Joint General Manager HG Meena, Executive Engineers BS Tuli and SS Dhariwal and Sub Divisional Officer Vishal were among those others present.
