Jalandhar: Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi was welcomed by KMV faculty on her return from an academic visit to Harvard, Boston, Chatham and New York Universities. She made a presentation on “Making of global citizens: Vision and challenges of leaders in education” in the five day international conference organised at Harvard University. Her talk focused on how education today must have the requisite edge to develop competencies among students to be the world citizens, who would be leaders of tomorrow. In her address, she shared that the world today had common issues and problems ranging from the environment, health, terrorism, human resource, economic disparity, gender issues and so on. Technology had brought the world closer, but education had not kept pace with the development of young students, who could think and act globally.
Beginning with school education and then in higher studies, Dr Atima had carried out surveys in India and other countries, which show that a lot of work had to be done by policy makers and leaders in education towards this cause. Recommendations in curriculum development and executing programmes were discussed in detail in the paper. Her talk was widely appreciated and received by academicians present from many parts of the world in the conference. Scholars from Turkey, Poland, Africa and America offered their cooperation to Dr Atima to take her work forward. They would be contributing in her future work. She also chaired a session in the international conference at Harvard University. During her stay, she was invited to Boston University to deliver talks to students and scholars in three different programmes. She also visited Chatham and Pittsburgh University to discuss details for future programmes as KMV-Chatham partnership had been going on for the past five years.
