Residents of the Puli Ali Mohalla today staged a protest on the GT Road against the blocked sewer line in their locality for the past five days.

The shopkeepers said while the development of the city was taking place for the past 60 years, there weren’t any open drains in any area of the city. But there were 3-ft-deep drains in their area which always remained blocked. They said the safai karamcharis neither clean the area properly nor pick the garbage. They said due to blocked sewer line the water was also affected and the threat of contamination and subsequently diseases always loomed on the area. They said the area had no outlet for water drainage and the sewer arrangements were in bad shape. The residents said while they had taken up the issue with Ward No 36 councillor Raj Kumar Raja and neighbouring ward councillor Varinder Sharma a number of times, their demands had not been addressed.
