JALANDHAR: A potpourri of different dance forms, track events and fun games was presented by students of grades from I to V in annual sports day of Mayor World School. The state co-ordinator of SCERT, Shruti Shukla, graced the event as the chief guest. The event commenced with pinning of badges to the dignitaries. The tri-colour balloons, representing the free spirit and a tribute to the nation were released to declare the event ‘open’. Students exhibited their agility and suppleness through a magnificent performance, displaying gymnastics and yoga.

‘Sarod vaadan’ by Pt Brij Narayan

Music and Dance Deptt of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar, in collaboration with Spic Macay organised Sarod Vadaan concert by Pt Brij Narayan, a renowned Sarod player. Tarun Lala accompanied him on tabla. President of the Governing Body, Purushottam Lal Budhia, joint secretary Vinod Dada and Principal Kiran Arora welcomed the chief guest by flowers. The audience were mesmerised and enjoyed the performance.

Commemorative stamp released

Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering paid a tribute to Balbir Singh (former president, Governing Council and Management Committee) by launching a commemorative stamp bearing his picture. The event was started by inauguration ceremony at seminar hall of Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering by his wife Balbir Kaur. A postal cover in the name of college was also released.

Sports-cum-grandparents’ day

Manav Sehyog School celebrated sports-cum-grandparents’ day. The school had invited management committee members and special invitees were grandparents. Teachers requested the parents and grandparents to take part in the event. All participants enjoyed the games planned by the school and cherished their old memories.

Interactive session

An interactive session on Goods and Services Tax was organised at Innocent Hearts Group of Institutions, Loharan Campus. The speaker for the session was Ashwini Kohli Senior Vice President, Punjab Chamber of Small Exporters and one-tax GST Syndicate Consultant. Kohli gave an in depth view of the GST which was considered as a major reform in the Indian Taxation System. He began with an enlightening note emphasising on the basics of revenue collection with respect to the federal structure of India. He explained the queries related to various tax concepts such as direct/indirect taxes and regression/progression related to taxes.

Athletics meet at DAV College

Phagwara: The Annual Athletics Meet was organised by the Sports Department on the premises of the DAV College, Phagwara.  The students and the staff participated in various sports activities such as hundred, two hundred and five hundred meter races; sack-race, lemon race, short-put, tug-of-war and musical chair. — TNS/OC
