Another 1,500 to be inducted: Lt Gen Shergill

Senior Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister, Lt Gen (retd) TS Shergill, on Thursday said since the past one year, nearly 3,500 ex-servicemen were serving as Guardians of Governance (GoGs) and nearly 1,500 more would join from across the state by the end of the current financial year.
Interacting with mediapersons, after presiding over a state-level meeting to review the implementation of the scheme here on Thursday, the Senior Advisor to the Chief Minister said the GOGs had submitted around 4.82 lakh feedback clips on various issues to the state government, of which more than 50 per cent had been resolved.
When told that the GoGs were being considered as extra baggage for the government, he contradicted saying, “Serving since November 2017, the GoGs are the eyes and ears of the state government.”
Lt Gen Shergill said after conducting a village-level survey, the GoGs have also submitted a blueprint of some demands of the villages.
He hoped that the work on this blueprint would also start soon. The Senior Advisor said Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma had briefed him about the progress of scheme in the district.
On the occasion, Officer of Special Duty (OSD) to the Senior Advisor, Karanvir Singh, Major Gen (retd) Balwinder Singh, Col (retd) Grewal, Colonel (retd) Balbir Singh, Col (retd) Bachan Singh, Col (retd) Vijay Kumar, Capt (retd) RS Parmar and others were also present.
