Besides hard work, following a proper timetable and focus, which helped this year’s toppers of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class X examinations, were their resolve to stay away from social media platforms.

“I’m not at all active on social media. I don’t remember the last time I used Facebook,” said Mehar, whose father is a social science teacher and mother, a housewife. She scored a perfect 100 each in social science and Hindi, 99 in maths, science and Punjabi, while 96 in English.

“I maintained an easy timetable, and dedicated three to four hours to study each day. I have taken the non-medical stream in Class XI. I have a dream to crack the JEE (Advanced) exam in the future and be an engineer,” she said.

Bhumi said she had her focus right and preferred some reference book by the CBSE.

“Staying away from social media was one of the pledges that I made before the exams but I used to listen to a little bit of Bollywood and English songs on YouTube, a media sharing website, to relax,” she said, adding that since the first day of her Class X, she had been studying two-three hours a day, while before the exams, she was studying for seven to eight hours a day and some extra hours in the night.

Bhumi secured 100 marks each in Maths and Social Science, while 98 each in Science, Hindi and English. Both toppers gave credit of their score to their parents, teachers and friends.

“The guidance of the teachers and support of our parents made us achieve the success. We are on cloud nine,” said Bhumi and Mehar.

On the second spot, stood Sukhjot Kaur of Army Public School with 493 out of 500 marks (98.6 per cent), while Palak Duggal of Sanskriti KMV School bagged the third position in the district with 492 out of 500 marks (98.4 per cent).

Sukhjot secured a perfect 100 in English and science, 99 in social science, 98 in Hindi and 96 in maths. She gave full credit for her success to her mother, saying that her mother didn’t let her come out of her room and provided every meal to her on the bed.

Sharing her success mantra, Sukhjot said her regularity in the classes helped her bag this good score. “Another thing I focused was obeying teachers and listening to whatever being taught properly,” she added.

Palak, daughter of Sanjeev Duggal, a chemist, shared that whatever was taught in school, she made it a point to revise it at home. I followed an easy timetable and have not put any pressure on myself for marks, she said.

Rachna Monga, principal, Sanskriti KMV School, congratulated all students and their parents for their success in the exams. She wished success to them in their future endeavours.
