The interim Selection Centre North (SCN) was raised today at an impressive formal ceremony at the Kapurthala Military Station for the recruitment of officers.
The ceremony was presided over by Lt Gen RN Nair, Director General Recruiting and Lt Gen NPS Hira, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps, also attended the raising day ceremony.
Though this will be the interim centre, the permanent centre will be raised on 200 acres land allotted by the state government in Ropar and it will be made operational by March 2016.
Selection Centre North (SCN) with two service selection boards has been raised for the selection of candidates who will become officers in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
The Raising Day function was attended by senior officers representing Headquarters Western Command, Vajra Corps Headquarters Jalandhar, Military Stations Amritsar and Kapurthala.
Army officers, junior commissioned officers and other ranks, who form the first nucleus posted to the Selection Centre North (SCN), also attended the function.
Lt Gen RN Nair unfurled the Army flag and later released the motto of Selection Centre North (SCN) “Nishpaksh Nihswarth Nissandeh” (to be impartial, without any personal motives and with firm resolute).
In addition to this, religious slogans were chanted by teachers of all four religions. Also, congratulatory messages received from chief of the Army Staff, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command and the Adjutant General were read out during the event.
To mitigate shortage of officers in the Indian Army, the need to have an additional selection centre was being felt since long.
Choosing a location in the northern part of India, which contributes immensely to the officers’ cadre, will greatly facilitate aspirants from northern India to pursue their dream to join the Defence services as officers and also provide job opportunities to many, besides aiding growth and development in the area.
