Jalandhar, March 30
Arpit Shukla has taken over the charge of the Police Commissioner of Jalandhar on Wednesday. Shukla, who was serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jalandhar Zone, had also served the city as SSP for two years.
A recipient of the prestigious President's Police Medal for Meritorious Services and two-time winner of the esteemed DGP's 'Commendation Disc', the officer has many plans to make policing better and create a friendly environment for public seeking justice in the Jalandhar zone.
"Instead of the reactive policing, I will like to strengthen the proactive policing in the city by focusing on gathering intelligence with clear motive to prevent crime before it could happen," said Shukla.
He also informed that he would personally monitor the policing being done in police stations. "Special courses will be organised for the officials to make them public-friendly and polite in their approach. SHOs and DSPs have been asked to frequently meet public representatives, sarpanches and hold general public meetings to build a positive image," said Shukla.
He said efforts would be made to make the city a safe haven for women and children. Earlier, he was given a ceremonial guard of honour by the police department.
