Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairperson District Red Cross Society Isha Kalia pledged to donate her eyes at the stall set up by Hoshiarpur Eye Donation Society during the Red Cross fair organised by the District Red Cross Society at Roshan Ground in Hoshiarpur.

The Deputy Commissioner filled the pledge form for eye donation. PCS officer Amit Sarin also pledged for eye donation. Addressing the function, Kalia said District Red Cross Society was committed to provide facilities to the needy. Providing food to all for Rs 10 at Sanjhi Rasoi, free health facilities, annual cash prizes for talented poor children and several works of social welfare were being done by the society.

While lauding the contributions made from stalls in the polythene-free fair, she said by not using polythene, the stalls had given evidence of being environment friendly. During her visit to the stalls, she lauded the initiative by the Forest Department to promote disposable plates and bowls made of leaves. Kalia said it was an excellent initiative under the Mission Tandrust Punjab to keep the atmosphere clean. These plates and bowls will be prepared at a large level by self-help groups in collaboration with the District Forest Department.

About 50 stalls were set up at the fair, which included separate stalls attached to various self-help groups. Cultural presentations were also organised by school students.

Swing and games for children were the centre of attraction. A children’s painting competition was also held.

Information about EVM and VVPAT machines was also provided to the public.
