Jalandhar, November 14
Celebrating the first anniversary of the starting of pre-primary classes at the government schools of the state, the Education Department on the occasion of ‘Children’s Day’ observed ‘Bal Melas’ across primary schools today.
There are over 1,295 primary schools across the state. The pre-primary classes were started at all schools. As many as 1,70,000 students were enrolled from November onwards last year.
The ‘Bal diwas’ was celebrated across 952 schools in the city. In the district, the scheme has garnered only 8,500 students across 952 primary schools in the past one year. Notably, while the declaration for the ‘Bal divas’ had drawn some flak from the department due to the non-issuance of money for setting up the stalls and other formalities to be conducted on the Children’s Day, the celebration was religiously carried out by all schools which celebrated the day with fanfare.
During the event each school has been directed to put up five stalls based on physical, linguistic, intellectual and creative development and report cards of the students. Activities were conducted at these stalls by students with additional activities like hosting of choreography chart making contests, among other activities. Various sports activities were also held during the occasion. — TNS
