Bhalu gang member arrested in village

The city police today arrested gangster Ajay Suniyar, a member of the Bhalu gang along with his two accomplices, near Kangniwal village.

According to DCP (Investigation) Sandeep Sharma, Amandeep Singh, alias Doctor, and his brother Gagandeep Singh, a resident of Talwan village, and popularly known as Doctor Brothers, Narinder Singh, also a resident of Talwan, and Ajay Suniyar, a resident of Jandiala, had formed a gang to commit highway robberies in districts like Ropar and Jalandhar.

The gang used to encroach upon land of poor peasants and was also involved in various attack cases. They have several cases registered against them in various police stations in the city. Ajay, the prime accused, had also been declared a proclaimed offender (PO) in two cases.

The police said that today, equipped with weapons, the Doctor Brothers, along with Ajay Suniyaar, Rajinder Singh, Harmandeep Singh and Narinder Singh of Talwan village, were planning to loot a petrol pump near Babilke village. The police team, acting on the information, reached the spot and managed to nab four of them. The Doctor Brothers, however, managed to escape from the place. The police also recovered a car (CQ-5045) from them.

The police also recovered two mouser automatic .32 bore pistols with six live cartridges, a locally made pistol of .315 bore with two live cartridges, a sharp-edged weapon, a car and 75 gm of intoxicant powder from the accused.

The police further said that while prime accused Ajay Suniyar had over seven cases registered against him at various police stations in Jalandhar (Rural), another accused Harmandeep Singh was involved in a recent brawl reported at Talwan village. Also, Rajinder Singh, Harmandeep and Narinder too have got over four cases registered against them at Bilga and Nurmahal police stations.

The police have now registered a case under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC and Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act against them and have begun to look out for the other two absconders as well.
