In a much-anticipated move, Senior Deputy Mayor Kamaljit Bhatia, Opposition leader Jagdish Raja and BJP councillor Ravi Mahendru boycotted the live demo programme of the road-sweeping machine at Mohali.
Though the three were opposing the five-year-long project, which will be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore, they did not accompany the team of the BJP and Akali councillors, members of the Finance and Contract Committee along with BJP district president Ramesh Sharma, SAD district president Gurcharan Singh Channi, besides Mayor Sunil Jyoti and Municipal Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khehra.
According to Mahendru, the Mayor did not invite them, but had issued a diktat at 10.30 pm through a whatsapp message to accompany him to Mohali for the road-sweeping demo.
“It is all show-off and will not bear any results. Only those people have gone who were supporting the project. However, we will continue to raise our voice against this extravagant proposal,” said Mahendru.
