In a huge embarrassment to Mayor Sunil Jyoti, the agitation held by Municipal Sanitation Workers Union and MC's Coordination Committee played a spoilsport at the BJP event held at Company Bagh. Along with the BJP's anti-Congress slogans, they too began shouting slogans against the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khehra.

The BJP had planned to burn effigy of Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi at Company Bagh Chowk against his statement given in favour of JNU students. Many state-level BJP leaders along with state president Kamal Sharma, MLAs KD Bhandari, Manoranjan Kalia, Manohar Bhagat were present during the event.

However, the moment, BJP leaders set the effigy ablaze, many workers of the MC Coordination Committee reached the spot and began shouting slogans against Mayor Sunil Jyoti and MC Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khehra for not fulfilling their long pending demands. This caused huge embarrassment to Jyoti in front of his senior party leaders.

Calendar controversy ignites the issue further

Further worsening the matter, Chandan Grewal, leader of the MC Sanitations workers Union, too reached the spot and began slamming Mayor for not mentioning Valmiki's name respectfully in the MC's newly launched calendar. He even took Kamal Sharma along with many other senior leaders inside the union office. While showing them the calendar, he slammed Mayor Sunil Jyoti for not including a suffix with the religious leader's name intentionally.  The union threatened to set the printed calendars on fire and even demanded publishing the new ones with the required change.
