Jalandhar, February 6
Mayor from the London Borough of Ealing, Tejinder Dhami (74), said today that the traffic problem in Jalandhar was serious. Dhami said he had seen a little improvement from the cleanliness point of view since his visit to the city last year in February.
Dhami was welcomed by Mayor Jagdish Raja in the presence of some councillors. He said it was important that the work was done with a sense of unity. When Jalandhar Mayor Jagdish Raja asked him what suggestions he had for improvement, Dhami replied, “Coordination is needed between the Mayor, councilors and the officers and if there is unity, work will progress automatically.”
He said to make a city smart, the most important factor was cleanliness but said corruption was a problem here.
Giving details about himself, Dhami, who belongs to the Labour Party, said he was born in Hoshiarpur and had gone to England in 1962. He became a councillor of Dormers ward for the first time in 2002 and went on to become a councillor from the same ward for a fifth time.
In London, the mayoral term ends after a year and that he is a civic mayor who listens to problems and meets people, Dhami added.
