The British High Commission, New Delhi, will host a seminar on ‘Land and property disputes for British nationals’ in the city at Hotel Raddison on Tuesday. The event is expected to provide a platform for British nationals to get better information on property laws in India and get a chance to discuss their concerns with the lawyers, police officials and specialists present during the event.
British Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh, David Lelliott, OBE, in a press release, said due to the complicated migration patterns between the two countries, an increasing number of British Punjabis are looking to re-establish themselves here to contribute and share in India’s growing prosperity. “Due to this, we are expecting a rise in property disputes,” said Lelliot. He said the consular department of the British High Commission will be there to address various issues of the British nationals hailing from Punjab.
In the past, a large number of Indians have migrated and permanently settled in foreign countries leaving behind their homes and ancestral property. This has given rise to legal cases in case they wish to dispose of or repossess their properties in India.
The seminar has been organised to help the NRIs and provide them with a platform to seek a legal view and guidance on how to avoid family and legal disputes and on ways to resolve them if they do arise. This will also provide an opportunity to the participants to discuss their concerns with legal experts, police officials and specialist organisations like the NRI Sabha, which have been formed to help them.
