A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan died after reportedly falling from a running train near Dakoha railway crossing today. He died on the spot after being crushed under the wheels of the train.
The deceased was identified as Ratan Kumar (47), a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana. He was an ASI with the BSF and was deployed at Dera Baba Nanak border.
Sources said he was on his way home for a two-week holiday but unfortunately met with the tragedy.
Earlier, there were reports that the BSF jawan had committed suicide by jumping before the train but later the GRP confirmed that it was not a suicide but an accident.
Soon, information reached the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar and officials reached the spot to inquire into the incident. A senior BSF official said the jawan seemed to have died accidentally after falling off the running train. He ruled out suicide.
The GRP said no suicide note was recovered from the spot. After conducting a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family .Inquest proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC were initiated by the police.
