Chadha group captures major share in liquor vends

After a long time, deceased liquor baron Ponty Chadha’s group captured a majority of the liquor vends in Jalandhar district. The group, named AR Enterprises, is being run by Ponty’s brother Raju Chadha.

The liquor vends’ draw, held at Red Cross Bhawan today, was chaired by Deputy Commissioner K K Yadav and Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner Sarojani Gautam Sharda.

Draws were conducted for 21 zones in Jalandhar district. Out of the 21 zones, AR Enterprises, belonging to the Ponty group, managed to win six zones, comprising five in Jalandhar city, while one is in the rural limits.

The six zones won by the Ponty’s group AR Enterprises in the municipal limits were zone 5 Basti Nau zone, zone 1 Jyoti Chowk, zone 6 Maqsudan, zone 9 Jalandhar Cantonment, and zone 8 Rama Mandi while in rural belt Adampur zone also went into their lap.

Apart from this, the zone 2 railway station was won by Jasdeep Kaur Chadha, zone 7 Reru chowk was won by Oasis Distilleries, zone 3 Suchi Pind and Bus Stand was won by Jai Krishnan Liquor Private Limited (the group is owned by Delhi-based Anil Wadia group) and zone 4 Model Town went into the lap of Inderpal Singh who is the new entrant in the liquor trade in Jalandhar.

Sources said in Jalandhar-I, the excise department received 2,713 applications, while in Jalandhar-2 2,078 applications were received. From the applications for liquor vends under Jalandhar-I, Rs 19.50 crore was received, while Rs 11.11 crore was earned as application fee received for Jalandhar-2. Compared to last year, there was a total 96 per cent increase in the application fees.

In the auction of rural liquor vends falling in the Jalandhar-1, Phillaur zone went to Usha Singla, Goraya zone was won by Joginder Pal Doda, and Apra zone was won by Divya Singla.

For the allotment of liquor vends falling in the rural belt under Jalandhar-2, the Kartarpur zone was won by Sukhwinder Singh, Bhogpur zone by Brij Mohan Singh, Adampur zone by AR Enterprises, Shahkot zone by Prem Jindal, Lohian zone by Joginder Pal Doda, Nurmahal by Vikram Wines, Jandiala zone by Jasprit Singh, Nakodar-1 by Vijeta Beverages and Nakodar-2 by Bimla Rani.
