Jalandhar, October 7
Ajay Sharma, a doctor by profession, has come up with a drama, ‘Challa Mud Ke Ni Aya’. He said it was for the first time that someone had turned the famous folksong “Challa” into a drama.
Principal of Doaba Dr Naresh Kumar Dhiman College, where the book was released, said Dr Ajay Sharma is a celebrated Hindi novelist from Jalandhar, who has created history by reincarnating famous folk song of Punjab ‘Challa’ in the drama form.
Prof Sandeep Chahal from the college said “Challa Mud Ke Nahin Aaya” is certainly the first ingenious work of its kind for the reason that no one has ever attempted to pen down Challa in the present form.
Till date, 25 MPhils and 2 Ph.D have been completed on the novels of Dr Ajay Sharma. His novels have also found their place in curriculum of some of the universities.
His tenth novel ‘Samandar Aur Safed Gulab’ was recently released.
Although he is from the medical profession, his love for words could not hold him back from the literary world. He has published around 10 books on fiction.
Sharing his story on how he became a novelist, Sharma said, “I have been writing since my school days, but these were not professional writings. After completing my BAMS from the GNDU in 1985, I carried on with my hobby, which later turned into a passion, and published my first literary work in 1993 — a short story book in Punjabi, titled ‘Lakir De Aar Par’.
