Jalandhar, February 14

Activists of the Punjab Christian Association today burnt the effigies of Mahrashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, PM Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

A dharna was held outside the DC office on a call given by the Punjab Christian Movement United Pastor Association. The dharna was held to protest against the attacks on Christian leaders and pastors in UP, Rajasthan and Mumbai.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, state president Hamid Masih, Pastor Rajinder Masih and Pastor Rajiv Gill said some fundamentalist elements were bent upon dividing the country on communal lines and every now and then some incidents were causing worry to the minority community in the country. They said the attack on the secularism and minorities in the country causes fears of the emergence of a situation similar to that being faced by the minorities in the neighbouring Pakistan.

Leaders of the movement while alleging that Hindu organisations were threatening and troubling Christian pastors and leaders on the basis of false allegations of conversion being done by them said, “A stop should be put to such incidents so that the democratic fabric of the country is not adversely affected.”

Christian leaders also exhorted PM Narendra Modi to take steps to ensure the safety and security of minorities in the country. They also demanded that the false case lodged against Pastor Sebastian in Mumbai be dismissed.

They said if step are not taken to address their demand then the Punjab Christian Movement would intensify its agitation.
