Ahead of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s visit on the occasion of 73rd Independence day, the officials at different branches of Municipal Corporation (MC) have stepped up the efforts to display a better, beautiful and greener city to the CM.
A beautification drive, including coloring and repairing of the city roads, that are expected to be visited by CM, has gained the pace. Workers could be seen painting and cleaning the roads everyday.
The officials from the Horticulture Department have also hired workers to increase the green cover at several chowks and around the Guru Govind Singh stadium; the venue for the Independence Day function. Junior Engineer (JE) from horticultural department Omkar Nath said, they were assigned the task of beautifying the dividers, footpaths and chowks leading to the stadium.
The convoy of the CM is likely to use the Model Town route so the workers were working day and night to step up the beautification work. Besides, wild grasses were also removed from the dividers and new plants have been planted. Interestingly, the colouring and repairing work on the otherwise dust ridden and damaged dividers near the MC office and the stadium has also been geared up.
B&R Junior Engineer Parul Sabharwal mentioned that the CM could also visit the MC house, hence, the roads connecting Namdev Chowk and Circuit house have especially been painted and beautified. 4-5 workers engaged in the task have been asked to finish the work two days prior to the Independence Day.
Moreover, the artists painting the walls out side the Company Bagh said, considering the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, they been directed by MC officials to colour the walls with different themes.
