Sargun Kaur, a class III student of Apeejay School, has made the city proud by bagging a bronze medal at the Sub-Junior National Karate Championship organised by Karate Association of India, held in New Delhi at Talktora Stadium from April 20 to 22.
Having played the match in the age eight category, Sargun gave good competition to other players. “A total number of 900 students from across the Nation participated in the Championship, however achieving bronze at this level and age despite tough competition is really commendable”, said Mahavir Sharma, Sargun’s coach.
He also informed, Sargun has earlier participated in many district and National level championships and have bagged prizes. She is putting all her efforts to achieve a name for herself at the International level.
Another student associated with the Full Karate Academy here Vasu Kumra of Apeejay School, has been selected to represent Indian Karate team under U21 Yrs Men’s +84kg, individual Kumite event in the forthcoming 17th AKF Cadet, Junior and U21 Karate Championship to be held at Okinawa, Japan from May 10 to 13, informed Mahavir.
He also said, “His students who have won gold in the Shotokan Cup, National Championships had also played at the International-level and are first Dan black belt holders from the Karate Association of India.” he added.
Mahavir Sharma who trained the students for the championship narrated, “Jalandhar has the highest number of youth interested in martial arts. The performance of the students in improving and they are securing gold in almost every event.
