City girl Jyotika Tangri (21) has bagged the golden opportunity to feature in the upcoming music reality show The Voice – India, the Indian version of the US show by the same name.

To be judged by stalwarts Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Mika, Jyotika is the only city girl to feature in the show.

Talking to Jalandhar Tribune, her brother Pulkit, a gemologist, said, “We can’t believe my sister has made it to the show. She has an inclination towards music from her childhood. She loves music and can sing in 22 languages. She is pursuing her PGDCA from the local Khalsa College. She also has plans to pursue MA in music and a PhD in the same subject.”

Learning music from her guru Dharmendra Kathak, Jyotika started singing from third standard onwards.

Her mother Bhavna Tangri, a teacher at the Seth Hukam Chand Public School said, “Right since her childhood, Jyotika had interest in music. She started competing in contests early on. Her school teacher Dharmnedra Kathak recognized her talent and persuaded her to take formal lessons. He supported her to pursue her dreams at the college and now at the national level. Much of what she has become, she owes it to him. He also played a vital role in making her prepare for the auditions.”

“She competed and went for the nationals at the college level and even won senior and junior category contests at the Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan. She aspires to be a successful singer and we are always backing her for it. She initially appeared for the auditions at Delhi and after coming back home, she received a call for Mumbai. She has the knack for singing and we hope she makes it big in the field of music,” said Bhavna.

While she doesn’t have music as a subject in her present college, it was only because of her prowess in music and brilliant performance at the youth festivals that her college asked her to opt for a subject so that she could compete for the youth festival.

She is equally brilliant in studies and in BA finals, she stood second in the GNDU examinations, her mother said.

Jyotika is currently away shooting for the show, which features Shaan, Himesh Rehsamiya, Sunidhi Chauhan and Mika as judges.
