City girl Sukhjot elected chief of Canadian institute

Sukhjot Kaur Samra, a city-based girl, has been elected as the first woman president of The Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Sciences.
Talking to the Tribune, Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra, the father of Sukhjot and the principal of Lyallpur Khalsa College, said: “Sukhjot has been doing a course at financial studies in the Saskatchewan Institute, adding that she has created history by winning SPSA president election.”
“This victory was followed by the election procedure for student body election, covering all the campuses of Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology wherein Sukhjot was elected as the president. She has recently joined her office as president and in doing so, she became the first female and first overseas student to hold the prestigious office”, added Dr Samra.
He said until now, only male candidates from Canada had been winning and rendering their services on this highly important position, but Sukhjot bucked this trend with her groundbreaking victory.
Divulging the details about Sukhjot’s academic performance, Dr Samra said: “Sukhjot did her schooling in Commerce stream from Cambridge International School, adding that during at the school she equally excelled in sports and cultural activities along with her academic merit and she was also adjudged and honoured as the best speaker at the school.”
“These multidimensional aspects of her personality have paved the way for her becoming the president of SPSA,” he added.
Dr Gurpinder Singh said Sukhjot was also accorded the ‘Iconic Student of the School’ title. Talking about the duties and responsibilities as the president of SPSA, Dr Samra informed that Sukhjot has skillfully lead the student associations in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and other state campuses, along with presenting various schemes for student welfare and putting forth her views on the problems faced by the students in the light of addressing them suitably.
“The student working on this prestigious position is given a proper office and associate staff for efficient working so that the office-holder is able to implement efficient policies and programmes for the welfare of the students,” added Dr Gurpinder Singh.
He said: “This body also works to ensure an all round development of students, promoting cultural harmony and to infuse leadership qualities among students.”
