City karate coach to assist Indian team

City-based karate coach, Mukesh Kumar, aka, Mahavir Sharma, of the Full Kararte Academy, in an official letter received from the Karate Association of India, has been appointed the assistant team manager of the Indian karate team for the ongoing 17th AKF Cadet, Junior, and u-21 Karate Championship being held at Okinawa, Japan, from May 10 to 13.

Being a black belt 3rd Dan holder of the Japan Karate Shoto Federation (JKS) and the Karate Association of India (KAI), Mahavir holds vast knowledge in the art and has years of experience in the sport. He has been trained by world champions from Canada, France, America, Denmark and Spain.

He has also taken training in karate from Alexandar Biamonti who is six times world champion, 19 times European Champion and French national coach. As player, Mahavir has won various national and international championships and as coach, he was given the chance to represent the state team in the nationals as the state team coach in 2017.

He also mentored the Indian team in the national camp for World School Combat games 2017. Apart from this, he is also a certified Kata and Kumite coach from the Karate Association of India and has given self-defence taining to girls in various government schools across the district.

Talking to The Tribune, Mahavir Sharma said, “It’s another feather in my cap for being appointed as assistant team manager of the Indian karate team for the international championship. I had been training students for years so that they shine at the international levels and bring name for the state and country.” Students trained by me have won gold in the Shotokan Cup, national championships and have also played at the international-level and are first Dan black belt holders from the Karate Association of India, he added.
